2012 Property Taxes Are Due
2012 Property Taxes Are Due March 31, 2013 or they become delinquent April 1st and any active Property Tax Appeal is automatically denied!
Pursuant to Section 194.014, Florida Statutes, at least 75% of the ad valorem taxes and 100% of the non-ad valorem taxes must be paid by March 31st, 2013 or the VAB tax appeal petition will automatically be dismissed.
In certain Counties, such as Palm Beach, the Value Adjustment Board does NOT process the agreed to settlements or reductions obtained at hearings until AFTER all hearings are completed and the roll re-certified.
Therefore, unless the minimum statutory payment is made based on the ORIGINAL November 2012 tax bill by March 31st, 2013, the results already achieved through the 2012 appeal process may be negated. Any open appeals will also be denied.
Since the new law will also require a County Tax Collector to pay the Taxpayer 1% per month on refunds due, we strongly recommend full 100% payment before March 31st, 2013.
Please note, as March 31st falls on a Sunday this year some tax collectors are accepting mail post marked on April 1st, however we recommend payment prior to March 31st to avoid any uncertainty. Payment should be sent by overnight mail or certified/return receipt requested in order to have proof of sending.
